Hello,

 

Today i would like to make a short presentation of Android 2.1 Eclair operating system Walkman edition. As most of you remembers, one of the most popular Sony Ericsson smartphones - Xperia X8 - has been released with Android 1.6 donut operating system in 2010 year, then Sony Ericsson has released Android 2.1 update for all Xperia X10, X10mini, X10 mini pro and X8 owners. Almost one year after announcement of Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 - Sony Ericsson has released it's Walkman version. Hardware is exactly the same, the only changes are: new Walkman black-orange cover:

 

 

and modified firmware. Let's see what has changed

 

1. Lock screen, home screen and widgets:

As you can see - "slide to unlock" way to unlock your screen lock is exactly the same as in X8 2.1 Eclair firmware. The only noticable differences are:

 

• Walkman app in the corner,
• New orange wallpaper (only one),
• New Walkman widget.

No more differences.

 

2. Menu and applications:

That's it. Pretty same content as in Xperia X8 phone.

 

3. Applications overview:

 

Sony Ericsson W8 apps are exactly the same, as in X8, so there is no point of posting screenshots. You can watch them in this thread: Sony Ericsson X8 Android 2.1 overview. So let's take a closer look on the only one changed app - the Walkman.

Walkman:

It's the same MP3 player as in Xperia X8, but with changed icon. No new features. No equalizer, no extra settings. Just a pure MP3 player with icon.

 

4. Phone, phone book, messages:

 

Those apps are also exactly the same, as in X8, so there is no point of posting screenshots. You can watch them in this thread: Sony Ericsson X8 Android 2.1 overview. You can't even change a theme to have an orange dialer etc. - everything is blue, as in Xperia X8.

 

 

5. System settings:

 

Sony Ericsson W8 menu settings, the same as in Xperia X8 phone:

So as you can see it's hard to find differences between Xperia X and  W8 Walkman phone. The only 3 differences i've found: 

 

• MP3 app with Walkman icon,
• One new orange wallpaper,
• Walkman widget.

Not much, however it looks slightly better than Xperia X8 firmware.
